Silkie thread!

Really? Are there any fertility issues or residue in eggs?

Nope, not fertility issues and after 14 days the eggs are fine to eat, at least, I haven't died yet.

It is cheap and can last as long as 5 months. I treat every 6 and all new birds get a dose.

Before the horse wormer I used to hang fresh mint in the coop, which helps, but I kept seeing bugs and i hate bugs, so now I use this and no more bugs.

Don't count your chickens before they hatch (pun sort of intended

), not all chicks from a good line will turn out show quality. even some catdance chicks can turn out just pet quality. vice versa, some extremely gorgeous ones can come from pet quality parents, so you never know what your gonna get. I hope yours turn out nice

I have a silkie that looks exactly like the second from the top. I only had 2 roosters in separate pens. One had a grey partridge hen with a black roo, the other was a partridge hen with a split gold/silver partridge roo. I can't figure out which one it came from. It has a silvery neck/hackle, pale blue body with light buff wing tips. If I didn't know better, I would guess it was a buff lavendar cross, but thats impossible...
Any guesses?

And again, I have a couple of grey partridge girls but with no roos. Should I use him, I think its a he, and hope for silver partridge? or put them in with a different black roo?

Marquisella,
You might want to post this on the silkie breeding, showing and genetics thread. Sonoran and DragonLady may be able to help you. I have to tell you how much I love the eggs in your avatar. I've admired them when seeing your posts on other threads. Are these Maran eggs and is there any chance you may have eggs, chicks or youngsters available? I'm in Dutchess County and would love to see if we could connect somehow.

Quote: Considering that mites and lice can kill our birds, treating them with a chemical that will likely save their life is well worth the risk. Especially since most pesticides that people use are tested and approved in some part of the world. Th real reason that more are not approved here is teh food industry. The vast majority of poultry raised in the US are for commercial meat or eggs. The regulations and limitations are to protect humans eating the eggs or meat. Not because they make the birds ill.

HAHA! I just posed almost the same question on FB! I'll let you know what they say, unless you are already a member of "American Silkie Bantams" group on there. -Pam
LOL, That is funny! NO>>>I haven't heard of that group and I will most definitely go and join. Thanks Pam. The show in Dalton is the 24th and it is at the GA Fair grounds. It is supposed to be HUGE lots bigger than Calhoun. I hope to go too and maybe we will actually get to see each other, haha.
