Silkie thread!

How is it coming with your whites????  Have you hatched any eggs from the chickens I brought to you????  You got to send me pictures :)

There all doing pretty good, snow still has dirty butt, her eggs are getting better they have shells on the last two she laid still need to be stronger tho. I can't get over how big they are! Huge! Like a standard chicken and white not the normal tan. Still hasn't grown any beard or crest back, thought she would have by now. I don't know how long molting takes. I need to get someone to help me clip her toe nails I know your not suppose to need to clip them but they are super long I've never seen any that long. Not sure if they will ware down on there own. I've been going out and raking up leaves and pine needles along with all the good worms and bugs then dumping it in the run so they do a lot of scratching around. They love it and it helps condition the ground makes a deep litter.
I don't have a incubator :( Sassy is broody tho I'm not sure she's ready for chicks one of the eggs I took was in front of her instead of under her, she was just staring at it. Lol I think I'll let her try this spring. I need to make a separate pen for Moma and babies. Either Cricket (little blue one) or Lilly (porcelain) has laid a few eggs not sure which one that's a small pinkish egg, cute.
I would worry about them getting to cold this time of year. I'm already tired of the cold wet weather and its just started. I will have to get out there and get you some pictures. Hope all your peeps are doing good.

It's always good to be prepared!

In July I started with 20. Lost a few, gained a few, re-homed a few, stewed a few......Now I have 28. I have also decided I need more Silkies! I only have one Silkie boy and as much as he would like it, the LF Cochins and Brahmas just are not interested in making a silkie pile. LOL. That may be partially due to the fact that he chased them quite a bit when the fence barrier no longer kept the LF babies on their side anymore and it came down. He had a morning routine of chasing everyone who was on "his" side back to "their" side. Now all the babies are bigger than him, but he still keep them in check!

Does anyone use frontline for lice and crest mites? If so, what is the proper way it should be applied and possible side effects. We are not really interested in eating the eggs at this time, we are more interested in hatching some chicks. Does it work for killing the mites and prevention? Any help would be greatly appreciated

I use horse wormer on my chooks. 1.75% ivermectin. I give a pea sized glob per bird by mouth and I haven't seen a bug in 2 years.

Great photos! Nice to have you back!! What color is that second chick? Really pretty!! Your showgirls don't look real! So cute!!
I have a silkie that looks exactly like the second from the top. I only had 2 roosters in separate pens. One had a grey partridge hen with a black roo, the other was a partridge hen with a split gold/silver partridge roo. I can't figure out which one it came from. It has a silvery neck/hackle, pale blue body with light buff wing tips. If I didn't know better, I would guess it was a buff lavendar cross, but thats impossible...
Any guesses?

And again, I have a couple of grey partridge girls but with no roos. Should I use him, I think its a he, and hope for silver partridge? or put them in with a different black roo?

I didn't have so many until we moved. Once we got land and a huge barn, I expanded a great deal!

I was looking at a house up for sale down the road it had the cutest hen house, and an area in the barn for chicks........I am now letting that be a deciding factor, that screams hoarder!!!!!
