My Daughter recently lost several Silkies to opssum. The live where there should be plenty of natural food for them. They have had to move their Silkies to a coop that can be locked up at night. My understanding is that possum are generally too lazy to kill & eat chickens unless they are very hungry.
Maybe the key is to provide catfood for them so they'll leave our chickens alone, like hstlwombat is doing. My understanding is that possum are generally too lazy to kill & eat chickens unless they are very hungry.
An opposum? Those are nasty, mean creatures. A friend of mine is having problems with opposums killing their chickens. I hope your chickens are locked up safe in a coop....away from your porch visitor.![]()
I would think that it would just attract more of them or even skunks! yikes!Maybe the key is to provide catfood for them so they'll leave our chickens alone, like hstlwombat is doing.![]()

Good! They are (locked in a coop) I'm not sure he's noticed the chickens yet. I did smell a skunk the other day...
Pam
I was just kidding about that! I don't leave ANY food outside (that I can help) because it attracts pests of all kinds. I even lock the feed dishes inside the coops....and have double locks on them.I would think that it would just attract more of them or even skunks! yikes!
That is what I do also... I am totally paranoid about the silkies lol!Good!![]()
