Silkie thread!

My silkies lay down to take naps in the most random places. This is in the middle of the yard

Precious!!

I love the way they look my husband has seen pictures of them and said they look like a chicken crossed with a poodle. I love the blue, red, partridge, buff and gray silkies. I would like to have a few of each color but them I would have to have separate pens for each colors because I sell my Blue and Black copper maran eggs and like to have clean breeds. I think they are adorable and if they are good with a 3 year old they will be good with her. I know my daughter is 6 but she is about the size of a 4 year old she is so small and I was just worried about her being okay with them. She is good with the marans we hatch until they start getting big then they are just really hard for her to handle. Thanks everyone.

I have two sons, my oldest is 4 but looks like a 3 year old. He is non stop and loves to bug everybody. He is always bugging the dogs or wrestling them and not always on a playful way. I have to intervene and supervise at all times. As far at the chickens he is getting much better, but I caught him a few times being rough with the silkies. On day he just threw my poor little Berta (blue silkie). It was bad and I couldn't accept that. I tried my best to stay calm but I scolded him for an entire week without seeing or touching any of the chickens. At first he was very upset but after a few days explaining him what he did was unacceptable, he understood what he did was very wrong.
Since, he has been really good with them or any of our chickens. I am not going to say he is a complete angel because he still bugging them but nothing mean or disrespectful. He loves to handle the silkies because they are small and mellow compare to our LF and I always ask him to help me to hold them. He fells good about helping me and I do to because it gives him a sense of responsibility.

i have a black silkie rooster witha ton of silverish white on his neck and topknot. he is from splash paint breeding would he be good to conceter as a breeder to some paint hens to improve the paint coloring or to splash or white

Well this might put it into perspective. Here's my daughter helping me at the last poultry show in october. She had just turned 19 months old (yes not even 2 years old...), 34" tall, and just about 25 pounds.

Here she's helping gather eggs in the pens...

Good thing the brahmas are docile since they have her outsized...
