Silkie thread!

Somewhere on this site I read where someone gave their silkie a hair cut. Well I did the same thing! The best thing that ever happened to that silkie was her getting a punked out hair style with all of her hair in spikes from eating watermelon. Wellah! She could actually see the mealworms I was giving her, before the other chickens would grab them because she couldnt see them and it took too long for her to find them. So I gave her a litte trim. What a difference!!

After all the trials and tribulations we've had this year trying to start up a breeding program...we just got our first egg. It's adorable! I'm so happy, I can't stand it! lol

Im excited for you! When i had the first egg from each of my first hens I blew the egg out and painted their portraits on the egg shell lol! I was pretty obsessed :)

Im in Ca, on the North Coast, and am still hatching. I might keep them in the house a bit longer but after a few weeks they will go in my unheated grooming room with their little Brinsea EcoGlow warmer. They are out of a draft there ( they are in a wire pen but I put cardboard sides around it. ) They will most likely winter there and move to the coop in the spring.

I always set some eggs to hatch for every Christmas eve. I love having chicks in the house when it is freezing outside and I am on holidays so I can sit and enjoy them. I love waking up Christmas morning to new chicks.
I have 4 doz black and splash silkie eggs coming next week...

I figure my eggs are up to about 200 bucks a piece, as much money as Ive spent on building their Holiday Inn chicken coop.............

Lol....we all know what you mean...have you read ' the $64 tomato' ?

I spend prob $50 a week on my girls and I am about to have someone build me a new fancy chicken shed...my Christmas present to myself...
