I have one silkie that hatched alone. She is now with a batch of youngers silkies. She is around just over 2 months old. We noticed that when she is excited, turned up side down or is blown on (like wind or fan) she starts acting dizzy. She spins her head around up and down and it takes her a bit to recover. Then she is fine. She isn't sick in any other way. Yesterday I put her out in a playpen outside and she got another dizzy spell. Then she was fine. Is this something genetic or am I missing something in her diet? The rest of the baby chicks are about a month behind her and all seem fine. I have raised several chicks this year and not seen anything like this.

You're not crazy, I called one of my Silkie chicks Twitchy because he would do this little head shake that looked like cerebral palsy.

I can't remember all the correct terms or the whole story, but I'll try. Silkies have a vaulted skull and something about the way it's joined has a weak spot (like a newborn baby's soft spot) or something and if they happen to get pecked in just the right spot, they show some sort of balance issues or other equally weird symptoms.

As far as I know, it's not life threatening and it won't impede their development. Twitchy eventually outgrew his weird little head shakes and grew into a great looking little roo.

I'm sorry my info is a little sketchy, but maybe someone else can explain it better!

Thanks Karen,
That makes me feel like there is hope for this little one. She isn't anything but pet quality, but I don't want to have to put her down for some crazy brain disease or something! LOL She did it again tonight when we put them up from their outside playpen. Poor baby. Well, I say she but really not sure!

Thanks again!
