Silkie with straight feathers?

I hatched some silkie eggs and one of them is feathering out with regular straight feathers. I contacted the breeder I got the eggs from and she says this has never happened with any of her silkies before. Will she most likely have straight feathers forever? I know they molt and get new feathers before they are fully grown. Is it in the genes that she has straight feathers?
Not sure if she is just a poor quality of the silkie breed and thats why but she is a sweetie anyway and I love her.

Well, silkies do get some pretty normal feathers on their feet and wings, but, the wing feathers on yours seem a little too straight. Normally, on a silkie the wing feathers are regular, but the ends are frayed or shredded.

I would say she had someone get into the pen that was regular feathered by accident and didnt know it.

From the way I understand it, the silkie feathering is recessive.

She also could have had a Sizzle bird in the background and didnt know it (silkieXcochin)

I hatched one this year and it had straight feathers. Looked like the maltese Falcon. I Have never had that happen before or since. I think it was a mutation. No other chicken had got in the pens. Of course I sold it at an auction. It was just plain weird. It was blue too.

Since I am waiting for my first hatch I have not actually seen a silkie, but in my research online I read a lot, and your silkie certainly seems to have a recessive gene. I read about quite a few like that, and they all grew with the feathers intact like your little one.

I would guess it's a throw-back, especially since the other chicks look like they should. I've never seen an actual throwback, so it's likely a million sort of thing.

looks like a smooth sizzle to me. i've never hatched that from a pure silkie only sizzle eggs(frizzled cochin x silkie). it will always have barbed feathers, cuz by this age they should have already started to shred like ur others.

i would assume the breeder has a breeder bird that is a smooth silkie from a sizzle breeding and doesn't know it. once they grow up u can't tell those they look just like a normal silkie, that's why i band them so i know and only keep them in my sizzle pens. the frizzle gene is dominant but it doesn't show in the smooths but still carries the gene to the next generation. ur baby when older if i am correct should be able to throw sizzles.
