I have been wondering if that could be - he looks so much like our little D'Uccle hen and so different from the other mixes. Ooooh I wish I could keep him!

And it was confirmed - of the hoped four pullets and one roo we ended up with one pullet and four roos. Argh!

Two of the roosters were rehomed already - and we had a perfect place lined up a few hours away with extended family for the two remaining favorites. We have been meaning to take them up there for the last couple of weeks with no time to make the drive - so finally my guy took a vacation day and set out to deliver them this morning. Wouldn't you know - 'the wife' called to say they don't want the roos anymore - after my guy was halfway there. So there goes a vacation day and the happy home for our two roos.

They are so incredibly docile and affectionate and absolutely gorgeous - the little D'Uccle (Cuddle Bug) and a D'Uccle/Silkie cross (Sassy Blue). The D'Uccle, in particular, will snuggle into your arms - close his eyes - and trill. It's too cute for me to send him to a stew pot.

If there were a way I could keep one of them - outdoors during the day and in at night to prevent crowing - I would. And the D'Uccle rarely crows so we actually considered it... but roosters are really not allowed in the city and the guy isn't up for moving to the country on short notice in order to keep them. Darn him.

And all of our chicken friends are either in town (no roos allowed) or have enough roos.

So now the hunt to find them a home.

Follow up photos below:

The D'Uccle almost never crows - but possibly because the D'Uccle / Silkie cross is the dominant roo? I wonder if he's naturally a quieter guy or if he'd make up for the missing noise if we rehomed the other guy separately first...?

Would love to find someone hoping to add fresh blood to their home flock with these two - they're great around kids, cats, even our free range litter trained house rabbit (because, yes, we've kept the roos inside so as not to upset our neighbors with any potential crowing).

Of course I'll post to Craigslist - but anyone have tips on where else I might be able to share their info in hopes of finding them a home?
I'll get better photos tonight - these were taken with my camera before work this morning (other than the older one from an outside day trip)... and don't do their coloring justice. Heck, depending on how difficult it is, I may even be willing to ship them as long as I know they're going somewhere not destined for immediate eating. Anyone have tips on that???

Seriously bumming over here! Kinda crazy.

**And one other quick question: the one roo is quiet but the other crows when we wake up and when the lights come on.

I know we can't make him stop - but does anyone have tips for how to best keep him quiet until we figure out another home? Would a totally dark pen area work if we set about creating something like that? Because our downstairs neighbors are pretty awesome and are okay with a little crowing when they aren't sleeping - but we'd like to keep it minimal first thing in the morning since we get up before they do...

And, for good measure because it's totally ridiculous and therefor funny - the little D'Uccle wearing a chicken diaper thing:
