I had a silkie hatch this morning , it’s all fluffed up warm in the brooder , but it’s not drinking or eating is it because it’s full from the nutrients from the egg

It can be a few days before it attempts to eat by itself, but you can encourage it. Is that the only one?
How long can a new born silkie live without food and water , I’ve tried the dipping its beak but nothing

I would give it at least 48 hours before I started to worry. A good way to get a chick to eat is to put the crumbles on a white plate so the color contrast gets their attention. Just put a little on the plate and tap it to encourage the chick to eat.

How old is it exactly? I think it’s best for them to get water soon, but the chick will be fine for at least 48 hours. Chicks usually start drinking as soon as you put their beaks in the water and they realize what it is, so maybe that means your chick just doesn’t need water yet. I wouldn’t worry.

I have put its beak in water a few times , it’s 24 hours old
