Silkiecuddles Chat Thread!!! ANYBODY welcome!!!

I have a speckled sussex that is broody with 12 eggs underneath her, she has been broody for a little over a week l think, I also have a broody buff orpington who has had 10 eggs since monday. How long does it take for eggs to hatch again?

Saturday, we got 1 self blue old english game, 1 buff brahma, and 1 black silkie, and they are awesome!:weee

Awesome broodies! I would take a few eggs out from under each of them though. 12 is too many for one chicken unless it's really big.

Sorry but l can't help with the ducks, would love too, but it isn't my house
21 (give or take) days for chickens :)
That's awesome! Speckled Sussex are very sweet birds, as are Buff Orpingtons.

Like Peepers said, 12 may be too many eggs. If they're all covered evenly under her body, then it's okay, tho.

The eggs are covered nicely by the sussex(we call her spic), it is a bit crowded, but not bad, and l don't really want to get rid of eggs that might have developing chicks. l actually took a flashlight out one night and tried candling a few eggs, all I could see was that there was a yolk, were those just bad eggs or did l candle them too soon?

Is sweety a Houdan? l don't know, but it is fun to guess!

Not all hens have trouble with large numbers. My little silkies can hatch 20 with no problems. The only issue is then they loose half of them in the fist 2 weeks after hatch.
