I am a new member and in need of help. I have a female silkie that has been losing feathers and I thought she was molting. Today I noticed she looked and was acting a little different. After looking her over I discovered that one of her eyes are extremely swollen not shut and it was easy to catch her which tells me she's becoming lethargic. She was very boney too. The roosters are gaining up on her and what I read is that when a bird is injured the flock attacks. If I can keep her separated and alive through the night does anybody have any recommendations of what to use on her eye and what I need to look for elsewhere and to do to get her back up and healthy? Thank you!

Welcome to BYC. Look for any signs of a pecking injury to her eye. Vetericyn Eye Gel, Terramycin Eye Ointment, or plain Neosporin ointment can be used in the eye to help treat for an infection. The Vetericyn or plain saline would be good just to clean it. Swollen eyes can sometimes be a sign of a respiratory disease, especially if there is runny nose, watery or gunky eyes, sneezing, or gasping. It sounds like she is just getting bullied, so I would try to cage her inside the coop with her own food and water. Give her a little chopped egg or tuna daily with some vitamins and probiotics, along with her usual feed, to help her gain some weight. Posting a picture of her sore eye may be helpful.

I am trying to enclose a picture but working out to good. She looks like she might trams to her eye. She has what looks like a cut lid? Really swollen on one side and there is a dry scab that runs from her crown down to her nostril. Almost looks like her nostril is covered. I will try and post picture. Thank you for your suggestions!
