Silkies and female turkey

Is there a safe way to introduce 5 silkie chicks and a female turkey to my flock of 6 ducks and a 4 yr old silkie rooster. The chicks are in an area where they are sectioned off with the female turkey they were raised together. I would like to open the gate and let the chicks out with the turkey with the other birds. I may have one male out of the chicks, I'm not sure yet. Will my rooster kill that chick that may be a male? Is there a way to introduce them safely like opening up the gate to the others at night? Any way to really tell if some of the chicks are going to be roosters? Hopefully, someone can help me with the questions I have. I have had chickens in the past but never Silkies.
Hi there, I know with my silkies they have a walnut comb, my girls have a barely there comb and wattles boys are larger. I had a hard time with one of mine (we thought he was a she, and I finally posted a picture of my girl and I was told it was a rooster, he was a late bloomer but he was my baby and my buddy. I just lost him to fly strike about 3 weeks ago but he was such a good boy. He actually played mama hen to a batch of babies I got in 2022. I also ended up with 5 boys and 3 girls. Only had to move one boy out the rest all got along! I would wait on mixing till they are similar sizes though. And like already stated no male ducks with chickens! Everything I’ve seen on turkeys is they go well with chickens!

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

How old are the silkie chicks? If they are chicks, they will not be able to be integrated until they are a few months old, closer to 4 or 5 months. There isn't anything like integrating chickens with ducks as they both do their own thing, but you cannot have a male duck around chickens as they will injure them by trying to have sex with them.

Your silkie rooster will most likely not hurt the younger silkies. If one of those younger silkies is a rooster, eventually they may fight but not all do...they may just get along.

If you post pictures of your silkies, get us a head shot showing their combs and another one from the side, showing their head and neck. We can try tell you their sexes if they're old enough. Usually they have to be at least 3 months old, preferably 4 to be able to discern sexes.

Sorry about you losing your guy. I will wait to mix them in another month or so. I will keep an eye on the ducks. The male ducks...I just have no words for at times. I have 2 females left which isn't enough for the 3 males. I separate the females from the males a lot. The males are just terrible to them. It would be nice if someone would like a few mallards. I would just keep one with the two females or no males. I think most of my ducks are over 10 yrs old now.. probably won't have them for too much longer. Thank you for your info!

I attached pictures to my original post so you can see them. Very hard to get good pictures...

Very pretty!!

The one you say is larger most likely is a cockerel. Even though no walnut comb, yet, it's wide there in preparation, whereas pullets won't get that wide spot there. I wanted to see the side view as from the top of the back of their head down their neck, cockerels will get what's called hackle feathers. Those are longer feathers the pullets don't get. I can't really see those on that one so maybe too early. They are getting close to the age where if you have cockerels, they should be trying to crow pretty soon. Usually around 4 months for sure they're starting to try anyway. I have one that's 5 months old I know's a cockerel, but he doesn't crow nor even try. I'm sure he will eventually.
