The one you say is larger most likely is a cockerel. Even though no walnut comb, yet, it's wide there in preparation, whereas pullets won't get that wide spot there. I wanted to see the side view as from the top of the back of their head down their neck, cockerels will get what's called hackle feathers. Those are longer feathers the pullets don't get. I can't really see those on that one so maybe too early. They are getting close to the age where if you have cockerels, they should be trying to crow pretty soon. Usually around 4 months for sure they're starting to try anyway. I have one that's 5 months old I know's a cockerel, but he doesn't crow nor even try. I'm sure he will eventually.
oh good info thank you. I will wait to have them go out with the others for another 4 wks.. I have flood irrigation right now so that was the best i could do quickly for pictures. I will look for the hackle feathers. I know what you mean though...because I also took pictures of my adult rooster and tried to study how his head and feathers were on his neck and top.
