Silkies as housepets.

For all of you supporting Klaire in her quest for a house chicken here is the pictures. What is a good Silkie name? She keeps going back and forth on what to call her or him. We have conflicting opinions if it is a hen or roo. There is also a few Silkie chicks. that are only a few weeks old and still in the brooder. One is a splash that I have decided to name Frippy, can you guess what word that is based off of? LOL She received this baby on Saturday I woke up Sunday morning to her readying to it. She is a very happy little girl.

Heat, oh yes. Cold, not so much. Those silkie feathers are really good at insulating the birds. Wet & cold is a bad thing, though, and they are living creatures and need some shelter from the elements.

Had four of my silkies die last summer during a 4-day heat wave.

You might want to check into the housechickens yahoo group

Great group of folks with housechickens; just make sure to use that spelling as a troll set up a similarly named one a couple of months ago that you do NOT want a child visiting.

Thank you for that. I most likely will join the group then have it filtered through me.

Why do trolls always have to ruin good things? I find this whole thing somewhat funny, and somewhat disturbing.. Oh well she will remember it forever as a fun memory..

Thank you everyone for all the help.. I'm sure we will be posting again soon.

Christal.

I didn't read all of these pages so I don't no if someone has said anything about it or not
but you might want to look into the chicken diapers.

I agree with the heat. This past summer we had some really hot humid days. The poor things would just stand there panting with their wings held out from their body. I took the hose and would mist down the birds. Seemed to work.
