silkies due today!!!!

the suspense is killing...my broody pekin has been so bad tempered the last 3 weeks.she sounds more like an angry seagull than a chicken and she was once so sweet.

anyway the hatch is due today and she is making clucking noises which is a big difference from the seagull noises. i wonder if they have hatched already....

Best of luck!! Love silkies and my hen that was broodie (we gave up and gave her babies) sounded like a demonic dog too. She will be a great mother

i still can't get a look under her but she looks animated and is still chattering....lost the zombie look. either they are hatched or she can hear them i guess.

great excitement. there are 2 silkie babies. today is day 22 so i took egg 3 and candled it. the chick is peeping and internally pipped so it is straight back under mum.
these chicks are much more adventurous than the pekins or cochins. they are out from under her regularly to see what's going on.

hoping chick 3 makes it. will keep an eye on mum to make sure she continues to sit. i have an incubator up and running in case....

Congrats, ive heard silkies are brilliant mums. what colour are they ? I ordered 10 white miniature silkie eggs only 1 has made it to lock down

i have a half silkie who did a great first job hatching last month. the mum here is a pekin (bantam cochin in US) the babies are white silkie. i started with 5 but 2 were not fertile. i hope your little one hatches. so disappointing to lose so many. i have had such disasters with shipped eggs....

It's the last time I will buy ebay eggs, I have quite a few hatcheries around in my local area which I was unaware off. So will purchase from them in future.

disaster! i left them and all was well. 2 hours later i return home and the chicks have vanished without a trace. the wire dog cage was sealed with netting so there is no way they could get out. has she eaten them??? i'm so upset. the last egg i removed but it has died.

so disheartened...

Omg they have to be there is there mum not looking for them? I'm so so sorry such sad news. A hawk maybe ? Or some sort of kestrel ?
