I have two awesome silkies and have researched silkies quite a bit and know they dont see great because of their fluffy heads covering their eyes. My older Silkie Roxie has started laying and is doing fine and actually is the dominant in our coop of 7 which is kinda funny but my younger 16 weeks old silkie Stevie Nicks really seems to struggle to see where she’s going and where everyone is and finding her snacks. I have seen pics of silkies with little ponytail bands holding their little poofs up away from their eyes and my son and i bought baby ponytail holder to try this and they just shook them off and didnt want them on. Should I trim their fluff away from their eyes or should I just leave it alone? I also know they dont roost which is kinda sad when everyone else is hanging out on a roost.

Silkies are the sweetest and love attention. They are like little puppies I just love them but their eggs are of course small but not their personalities but I have 5 other large hens to make up for that.

Hi, hope you are enjoying BYC! :frow

Some of my crew have the hardest time seeing as well. It almost makes them "special needs" to a degree. :love

We do trim the feathers near the eyes.
I agree my little black baby just seems to struggle more. I’m going to trim a little this weekend to help her out
