Hello, Any one have any advice on Broody Silkies? I have 2, Cornbread and Dipshit. Cornbread has only gone broody once but Dipshit, who is very appropriately named, goes broody about once a month and I separate her every time to break her asap but its a pain in the butt to have to deal with so often! And I know an easy fix is giving her some chicks but I dont want any more chickens. I have 7 and its the perfect number for me. The nest box is cleaned and eggs picked up every morning and I separate her from the coop the moment I notice she's Broody. Every thing I've read online mentions, yes, Silkies are known to go broody often, but I haven't seen any where that says its normal to go broody every single month! Do I have a problem I need to look into, or do I just have a Dipshit.

Sounds as though you have some normal Silkies. There are gamebird and exotic breeders that will keep a flock of Silkies for use as organic incubators for that reason. Only option is to continue breaking and making the coop as least "cozy" as possible. Although, with hardcore brooders the latter may or may not make much difference. Some will sit on bare ground with nothing under them. Just a quirk of the breed that can vary by individual.
