I've a silly question , with having my 1st chickens and all, in the Summer do chickens like to have a little dip ? Do they like to bathe in shallow water as well as their dirt baths ? Going to be a bit worried about them as Summer is approaching here and being Silkies i reckon theyd feel the heat with all those thick fluffy feathers .

My experience is that chickens hate getting wet.

When we wash our chickens prior to a poultry show, they get this look, "Hey! We are NOT Ducks!"

Kind of like cats--they prefer to stay dry. Which brings up what they really like to do in the heat: burrow into the dirt. Sometimes I lose sight of them they are so "dug in." It keeps them cooler.

Kids love it when I tell them that chickens take dirt baths. They think it's cool
