Hi all,Long time watcher first time poster:D

This is my plan, and I would like to see what you all think.I want to breed BO without a incubator.I would like to use silkies as my built in mothers if the BO don't go broody. Is my plan way out of line or seem like a reality.I am not that concerned about the hatch numbers it is just a hobby,I do like the BO's and silkies so I thought it would be a good match.

sounds like a great idea, silkies are the number one moms in the chicken world. They will work as exellent foster mothers when the chicks hatch.

Silkies do make good broodys. Are you planning on raising the buff orpingtons and silkies together? If you aren't you might have to keep them separate because most silkie hens don't stand up for themselves very well unless they are raised together with other breeds.

Some of the one's I have have been raised together, but I think I will seperate them when hatching.I plan on buying 10 more silkies and 15 more BO the first part of Feb.Not trying to brag about one breed but the Buff's seem to be a tough and hardy bird in the winter climate. The silkies also seem to be quite adaptible(spelling?) to the conditions as well.
