I think the permanent marker stripe down the back was what was meant

Oh. The permanent marker lasts for about 3-5 weeks on the chicks. Make sure you get it on their head also, that is where it is the most long lasting.

You could always do wing bands. I put them on a 1 week old. No problems so far.

For the ABA bands what size do you order for silkies?

Sorry, I forgot the sizes were different with those. I believe the 20mm, but I haven't ordered them yet. I read in another post that they use 20mm. Hopefully somebody else will answer. I do know that with the Spiral ones, I use size 9 for adults.
