Silkies Of A Different Color

It looks like a chicky in its extremely awkward teenage phase to me

i would agree there too lol i have some 5-6wk olds here with some massively funky feathering it's just their awkward stage. Soon they fluff up and are lovely.

Ali925, I ment to ask you, How do you like your Chicube? Are you in the UK or US? I just saw this online yesterday looking for a small easy coop for a few silkies.

I will post this here as well.

I'm looking for some silkies. I am hoping to get 2-3 young pullets that are from SQ lines, and have lots of SQ potential. My husband asked that I do not do the "chick in the house thing" again, so Im hoping for some young pullets. Im not too picky about color as I am starting out fresh. I know I do love the Splash and Paints. (I really wish Judy Lee was selling birds again) I also love the self blue, porcelain, buff, red, BBS, salmon, tye-dye... heck, anything as long as she is sweet, and has really nice type.

I want to show, but also want a buddy that will sit on my lap and watch tv and be my friend. (I miss my Marbles, she would do that) Any suggestions of who would offer something like this to a girl just starting back up?

I know it is a lot to ask someone to sell SQ Pullets.... however, I can't have roosters in my neighborhood, and only have enough room for 2-3 silkies.

Thank you all.
Kristen

I got her from a woman here who just had 3 hens for pets, she wouldn't even eat their eggs. These 2 hens were picking on her favorite one, a white hen, so she said they had to go, lol

I just emailed her to ask where they originally came from. She may not remember but it's worth a shot to try tracking it down

I'm not thinking buff paint. Wouldn't that mean all the buff would be buff to the skin? Not just the tops. On her head, it seems to be on the tips so what color would be white with buff on the tips then? I haven't had her long enough to see if she's a solid buff with white underfluff or actually does have buff patches on white. I have asked around elsewhere too, if I find out anything about her background or color I'll post it here.

She's adorable!

Whatever she is, I love her!

I have seen the buff head shifting into grey and then black in South American birds (EE, Quechua, Collanas, Huastecs). Not so much in the SA breeds that have been standardized but those who are landrace. This color pattern (don't know what you would call it) is not bred for in any SOP from any breed I know of. Body type looks Wyandotte. Maybe a EE/Wyandotte cross.
The silkie's color pattern is called Swartzkopt or Moorkopt (black head) in Germany. Some of their breeds have this as an official color.
