Silkies Of A Different Color

Oh! Oh! Is my boy the first or the second one or both? Wow, so nice to see them!

Here are pictures of my project birds, just taken today.
Brody, your females I would guess if they are salmon should look similar to my wheaten pullet. Mine are probably about 5 months old now. Not sure why the silver wheaten is non bearded though, all parents are bbearded.

I dunno, on ASBC and The-Coop, no one commented it was the same, but said that it was a silver wheaten the best they could decide, Sigrid did not seem to say it was Salmon either, I suppose, it could be, but does she look to be a salmon to you? I have had salmon faverolles in the past and the silver wheaten pullet to me just does not look like they did.

Anywho, I have them both entered into the show Saturday, mostly as an oddity if nothing else.

Cara,
Just get as many of the Judges & breeders to comment as to what color "they" think it is. If you get the same answer from all, then that is what I would call it. That is what I did, so that I would not be accused of coming up with a designer name to soot me. If all the pros at judging standard color ( the judges, & faverolle breeders) agree, who am I to tell them different! Good luck at the show and let us know what they say!

Yes salmon is silver wheaten with a few exceptions depending on the line of faverolles some are silver wheaten with an extra mahogany gene coming into play.

My salmon Silkie pullet, about a couple of months old. These are breeding true now. I got them from breeding blue partridge to buffs and ginger reds, Hattrick lines.

I hatched five identical chicks and sold two before I could tell what gender they were. The three birds that I kept turned out to be pullets. I still have the parents and can hatch more chicks. But they breed relatively true with 75% being salmon and 25% normal buff.

Oh I just wanted to see if the cocks looked lik my guy that I posted. It is interesting the genes behind the colors and how people are getting the end results.

I looked it up this morning, and salmon is silver wheaten plus mahogany and possibly autosomal red, so I was partly right, but not quite. In any case, a very pretty bird
