Silkies Of A Different Color

So they're more of a dark chocolate rather than a milk chocolate right now or like an off color black? Anything beyond BBS coloring genetics is beyond me right now, but I'm learning.


And is it the choc gene or dun gene I've been reading about that you're working with? I like to play around with the chicken calculator.

This is Nugget. He is a color I made up that I like to call purple.

He is a product of a blue cock over a red hen.

I think he is gorgeous, but he had a really obnoxious crow, so we had to get rid of him.
And Chloe is his half-sister with two red parents

Sonoran, Please, please, pretty please post a picture of your chocolates and kahki silkies!!!!!!! I've never seen one and it would be such a treat for me and others. And let me add my voice to cheer you on, to keep working with these colors!!!!!!! I'll be wanting to buy some of yours someday, I'm sure.

I had read that about the Seramas and wondered if that's where you had gotten the gene from to work with. So it's the dun gene you're working with?

I was with Sundy when you showed me the khaki you had brought. Your description of your breeders and Polish sound like what I've been picturing. The coloring from the Choc Orp pics on a Silkie body.

Weird, I like the lighter best in blue Silkies but can't wait to see a dark chocolate one as opposed to the lighter khaki.

More shine and depth. As pretty as the self blues and paints were I spent more time

over the blacks.

I have to say I am working mainly on khaki's right now. Breeding for the most khakis, which I will then breed to blacks to improve type. If I can even out the colouring while keeping the dun gene, I think it will pay off in hte long run rather than working with the chocolates, first. Did you see my chocolate F1 and F2 breeders?
