Silkies Of A Different Color

Pics
This is Margarita..I got her from a splash to blue breeding. She is laying, but I just keep her for eye candy! She watches over the grow-out pen. If I had a lavender boy, that's probably what I would put her with but since I'm not into lavenders, I'm wondering what I could pair her with....

She is light as a feather and a wonderful little lady!

Oh my dear friend you crack me up. I must start watching more TV, but that will have to wait for another 4 years, as I rarely get to pull my face from a BOOK!

Tomorrow is the BIG FINAL! I am so sick of reading I could scream.

I think Rusty is very unique looking. Oh, what will you do with another boy? Buddy usually throws about 95% Pullets. That is why I keep him around.

Buddy doesn't determine the gender; the hen does

I knew that, but now I am trying to keep Biology straight with the male determining the gender of the baby. Now, I have to keep humans and chickens all straight in my head, and I think my brain is going to rupture

Sunshine, I think you could cross Margarita with anything and it would be dy-no-mite!

Elite.......your brain can't handle much more.....you better take a nap!

Yes, I looked that bird in the eye and Rusty IS a roo. Good thing I didn't name him Diane
or something. Since he don't know any different I think I'll REname him Kramer!

If you saw him the first thing you would say is "Kramer" [well maybe not the FIRST thing]

Sunshinesilkies -- you bred her from blue to splash ? I'm no genetics person -- but I have a couple nice partridge roos I'd love to see her become friends with

if you decide you want to part with her -- well you can send her my way . She's lovely ~~~~~~Tammy

In mammals, the male determines gender; in birds it is the female. Basically the gender with unlike chromosomes determines gender. In mammals, males are XY and females are XX; in birds, males are ZZ and females are ZW. Don't ask me about reptiles or fish or amphibians--I have no idea.

I am breeding Partridge Silkies, if that counts as a different color....I have a not-too-great rooster and hatchery hen, but their two babies I have hatched so far (9 weeks old) are absolutely beautiful! One of them, a cockerel I think, has this wonderful bright orange color going on...I want to keep him. Does anyone have some photos of their partridges? I'd love to see them!

Breed her to buff.

Thanks everyone!

Thanks Suze, I don't have buffs..maybe I should acquire a fella for her!
