Silkies Of A Different Color

Pics
well i am glad this thread is here, maybe you guys can help me? I have some showgirls that i have posted a few times but continually get no answers. I just would like to know what their colors are- or if their colors are just some muttly creations, lol.

okay so the first guy is the roo for sure. this isnt columbian is it? no way on earth would i be that lucky. his black feathers are solid throughout, but he has some grey running down his back... (he is going through his juvenile molt right now...)

I knew that, but now I am trying to keep Biology straight with the male determining the gender of the baby. Now, I have to keep humans and chickens all straight in my head, and I think my brain is going to rupture

In mammals, the male determines gender; in birds it is the female. Basically the gender with unlike chromosomes determines gender. In mammals, males are XY and females are XX; in birds, males are ZZ and females are ZW. Don't ask me about reptiles or fish or amphibians--I have no idea.

We didn't get into the mammal sex chromsomes, but I did finish Biology today with an A!!!

I don't know the answers, heck I don't know what to call some of my own. But I like yours.
How many roos do you have?
Do you keep them all together? Hatched any chicks from them, just wondering what they will produce?
Hope you get some answers!
Cheryl

Thank you

actually these are my first showgirls and I have no silkies. I got these guys from FOWLRUS ( and incredibly awesome person to work with...) they are the only four I have and I really hope that first guy I the only roo. He was obvious from the start but I have no clue if any of the others will be Roos . They were hatched in February or January so I'm hoping they will start crowin or laying soon! I've never had a rooster so I'm really looking forward to babies. My only worry is that the babies are going to e even balder than Papa!

Yes, they will less feathering. I recommend getting a silkie rooster for the showgirl pullets if you have any. I also revised my post on your showgirl rooster x standard hen forum.

Hi Everyone! I was happy to find this tread and I wish I could help on coloring on your showgirls also but I have a hard enough time with our little NN chicks and trying to figure out what they are! I just wanted to introduce our little pullet that I think is pretty unique and I am wondering if I have the beginnings of a special color?? He mother was my beautiful buff hen and there are two possible fathers...a blue roo and a sizzle (best I can describe is partridge in color) is it possible to have two fathers for one chick? sounds silly to me but here are her traits....she is mostly buff and silkie feathered all over, the tips of her tail, primary wing feathers and tips of her hackles are blue, BUT her hackle feathers curl backward like the sizzle!

this is Pinapple when she was younger I need to get a recent pick of her up...

and here is her sibling who we didn't keep he was a roo (obviously sizzle)

Nope not two fathers to a chick, but of course any number of fathers to a clutch of eggs.
I'd say it is a Sizzle. as to color???? I'm beginning to trust my self less and less everyday
on deciding color.
Cute little chick though.
