ok... go hug your silkies....

and I don't know... I never tasted a delaware?

I tasted a bared rock before and it seemed a lil chewy.

Either it was older & best suited to stewing, or you didn't let the meat age a bit. A fresh kill needs 48 hrs to tenderize & go thru rigormortis. A saline solution bath in the fridge will help the process.

I brought them to a processor and he handed it back to me the next day frozen.

...and they were not layin eggs yet.

I got straight run and figured I'd start out with a few and keep the others for meat since I read they were a dual purpose bird.

I never knew about the salt bath and stewing the meat... that would have helped back then... but that was before byc.

I wonder if when silkies are brooding other breeds of chicks if they try to coax them to the dark side...

If I ever get chickens again they will be raised using LCRT's "House Chook" system.
