Silkies! Silkies! Silkies!

Quick question - how many toes do your Silkie cross chicks have generally? Just checked my three chicks and the (girl) has 5 and the boys 4. Is there a sex difference perhaps? xx
I think it's just anyway it happens. I don't have any male silkie mixes but the 2 I have are female and one chick has a 5 toed foot and a 4 toe foot and the other chick has just 4 on both.

Super cute! My daughter was gushing over your sweet chicks. Thanks so much for sharing.
And thank you for sharing your bright and white babies! I love them so much. I have mine trained to know their names and they are adorable. They are at the bottom of the pecking order but I have them separate for now. Even as broody hens they are so gentle.

It was raining today so now my white silkie has a brown beard.

I have read so many times about how gentle silkies are, but my experience has been very different. The roo I have will seriously grab hold of the hens and hang on while they squawk and shriek. Many of them run in fear from him. The female silkie has started doing the same thing now too. I have them both in timeout because they are attacking the other chickens so often. I'm hoping that this is only temporary, any ideas?

I don't have a rooster since our city doesn't allow it but I read on BYC that aggressive roos will produce aggressive offspring. Perhaps the hens are also reacting to each other based on your roo's behavior. My chicks were a little older when I got them at 5 weeks but they were handled every day and hand fed treats. They're also at the bottom of the pecking order because we have two buff orpingtons who are 3x their size so I guess that keeps them in line too. They don't get bullied too badly because my orpingtons are very nice as well. Maybe just a peck and they get chased around for a bit.
