I tube feed with bad cases of wry neck and with some chickens that weren't feeling well enough to eat for a bit. That being said I don't have any specific numbers on how much is best or water to food ratio etc. I also don't know that my method is the best so take what I say with a grain of salt!

I usually do 2 feedings per day. The syringe I have holds 20 ccs and I'm usually able to get most of that into the crop of an adult silkie without it feeling too full/distended. I'd do 10 ccs and then feel how full her crop is. If it feels like it isn't too taught you could give her another 5-10 ccs. Just go slow and if any starts coming up stop that feeding session and wipe it up as best you can.

Without a baby bird feeding formula what you are doing already sounds good. Adding enough water to make it into a sort of sloppy gruel should keep her hydrated. I don't have much experience mixing up my own formula as I've always used kaytee hand feeding formula since it seems to be in stock at most pet stores around here and is easy to work with (it works very well with my 14 french feeding tube).

Good luck, it sounds like she is in good hands! I hope she feels up to eating on her own again soon as well! :fl
Thank you so much. ❤️Unfortunately the little one just passed.
She seemed to tolerate the tube feeding well that I described about 3 hours ago. She then just became more lethargic and did not want to lift up her head, I suspect she may have had some more severe internal injuries from the vent rupture and prolapse that started this whole thing.😢
Poor dear, her one little egg was not even very big, not sure how it happened.

Thank you, I really did every thing possible. Such a fluke. My friend bought her from me as a week old chick back in February and she was so excited that her little pullet was going to start laying. She has 2 (I sold her Akira when she found out one of the chicks she had was a boy). These are her first chickens and she takes such excellent care of them. It is so sad. 😢

Oh no I'm so sorry she didn't make it! 😢:hugs

I know you did everything you could for her, I'm sure you are right and she had other internal issues related to the prolapse/tearing. :(

Hi... Secret plan to steal 2 eggs from the shopping basket (I obviously pay for them) and incubate them!!! Getting bored so I thought waitimg a week to see if these eggs are fertile would be fun!
My supermarket has free ranged eggs (hens and roos together) so these eggs have a chance of fertility!
Probably nothing will happen but I'll see.
Are the eggs refrigerated? Probably yes. I gave refrigerated silkie eggs to Chickie to sit on while I bought D uccle eggs. They stopped developing at around day 3-4. Anyway good luck!

Nope, the shop eggs are from the shelf (non refrigerated) and Pippin's egg was straight from the nest

I'm so sorry. You tried really hard to give her the best fighting chance she could have, at least she knew she was cared for and loved.
Us silkie folk are always here if you need to vent or chat! :hugs
