Most people I know who aren't huge silkie fans still keep a few silkies just to use as incubators. I actually haven't seen many silkie crossbreeds that were bred for hatching use. I only have a couple because I had a silkie rooster in with my ameraucana and EEs. The hens act like silkies so I kept them with the silkies instead of the EEs. The rooster is my flock rooster for my large fowl.

Cochins are just behind silkies as broodies. Which is good because silkies are so little and cochins come in large fowl size as well. Makes for hatching large eggs or larger clutches.

I'm in a very muddy climate. Most mud my girls get is on the bottom legs.

I've never had a chick get caught in the fluff. Have had that happen once on an easter egger. Not something that is normal for any breed.

i need to rehome these little guys, i am not permitted to have roosters where i live , i am in central east coast florida, vero beach/sebastian...they are free to a good home
I would take them, but I can't travel that far.
