SILKIES....Why The Bad Reputation?

We have 23 Silkies and LOVE THEM> We do not have any other breeed.
We had 14 Hens and 1 Rooster

Now we have 8 new Silkies. Not sure yet how many roosters.

Our plan is to keep one more white Rooster....that makes 21 hens and 2 roosters.

Would NOT have any other breed. Our Silkies lay small to medium eggs which are perfect.
Regards, Aria

I have 4 white silkie hens that I got as adults and they don't really like to be touched and do scare easily, but 3 of them just hatched me 23 babies a little over a week ago and are the BEST mommies. I had 5 surprise sebrights hatch from the "silkie" eggs I got and the white moms treated them just like the silkie chicks. I would not pick any other breed as my broodys, I think they are awesome. Yes they do lay smaller eggs, but the eggs mine lay are definitely not too small to eat. We eat them all the time. I do not have them for the eggs though as they will and do go broody over nothing. (part of what I love about them, I think it's cute)I love my girls and would not trade them for anything. I am only keeping two of the chicks but as I am hand raising them, I am exited that I will have at least two that want to be around me:love

Ya all I've ever heard is that silkies are the sweetest chickens out there and they make great pets. I've got 4 chicks that I got from Ideal along with some other chicks and they've been really sweet and give me quite a laugh every time I go out to the coop/run.

Any comments I've seen about them being evil was made in jest becuase they're all so cute and adorable that they "take over" your barnyard with their cuteness.

Yep, Silkies are evil. The first chicken breed I thought I wanted was a Silkie. Then I decided.. nah. So I wind up nearly getting a Silkie but Red and Ply (a RIR and barred plymouth rock) won out in their cuteness, somehow. Then the next chicken swap I went to had another Silky. Wound up picking up Amberbock and Stormy (amber sex-link and blue Cochin) instead. Then third time around... a blue Silky!- but no money.

Keep me awaaaaaaay from those Silkies!! LOL.. need them out of my head!

I LOVE my silkies they are the best chickens I have! Even the roo, he will not let me hold him but don't get mad about me holding his girls. I also have a RIR roo and He will get mad if I hold his girls. I have 4 new silkie babys now. We have 2 white hens,2 black hens, 2 blue showgirls, 3 blue chicks , 1 light baby still not sure of her color and 1 white roo Wallie. Just love them all.

I just adore my silkies! Yes, I do have one tough little roo I named The Gestapo, but I think it's hilarious when he comes after me. He is like the JRT of the chicken world-----thinks he's a Jersey Giant! Here he is:
