I'm new to silkies and I was wondering if there is any special care they need? I went to my local feed store and got 5 silkies, 3 frizzled cochins and a I also ordered 4 showgirls (I pre-ordered the showgirls from a local breeder but they are still in the incubator) I heard silkies need a vitamin suppliment added to their diet. Is this true? If so how often?

I feed my chickens layer pellets (usually purina brand.) With free choice oyster shell. They get wheatgrass everyday since they can't free range. Sometimes I also throw fruits and veggies in there as well.

Also, when my showgirls arrive can I put them with the silkie chicks or should I keep them seperated for a while first? I just want to be sure they are getting the proper care.

Silkies are feather-footed, so they will need deep, clean bedding, and their feathers don't lend well to wet weather when it gets cold; but other than that, they are quite hardy and easy to care for. Best of luck!
