I have had chickens my entire life. Recently I have been looking into silkies. Is there anything I should know before purchasing? Any special diets, special needs? I mean like, I want to know EVERYTHING about silkies to make sure I have maximum safety and care for my birds.

Silkies are the sweetest and most beautiful in my opinion here are my girls....Honey and Bunny. They are inseparable and love to snuggle. Much quieter and easier than most other breeds. Wishing you much love, happiness and health with your silkies!

I’m not sure if I replied to you or not yet… If so I’m so sorry! But I love silkies too! I raise them here on the Silkie Farm and sell their fertile eggs and ship day old chicks. They are very loving and sweet and OMG I love when their butt waddles!! Haha! See this video below of my daughter and lady-bug.. they’re very playful and like dogs lol.

I feed my chickens a batch of my own DYI mixture and don’t buy any processed or pre-made pellets, crumbles or scratch, all organic and no GMO etc. I make batches by the 50lb. Bags of each at a time… and they all lay all year round!! Here is my mixture:

-whole corn
-Premium whole oats, (horse race section at the feed store)
-black oil sunflower seeds
-oyster shells
-grit (proportioned)
-manna pro omega egg maker (5lb. Bag)

and MEAL WORMS as a TREAT… super high protein and THEY LOVE IT! It’s like cat nil for a chicken!! (Also, I use this to train them as well)
