Silkies

Quote:
What I do to get roosters to live together that are quarrelsome is- I take them both to an unfamiliar environment (garage another part of the yard etc. I confine them together in a pen or large crate or something for about a week. With no territory that belongs to any one rooster and no hens there is less reason to fight. Still watch to make sure the silkie rooster isn't getting badly beat up though they still might posture to each other. After a week of living peaceably like this return them to the hens and they should be fine. The bad fights and injuries happen when they first meet and don't know each other. This almost always works for me.

Thanks. I'll try your method and see what happens. The rooster I have is only knew anyway. I got him last week, so he has not really claim a territory yet!

:celebrateBy the way, what do silkie eat? I read somewhere (can't remember where), that they can not eat chicken pellets because their beaks are too small and that they should be feed on chick starter/grower. I feed my chickens a mix of grain and pellets, bread and lots of veggies scraps. Would that be all right. I'm getting so excited

to get my new silkies and want to do things the right way!

When I get pellets, that is what my adults eat. I haven't been satisfied with the quality of the pellets lately, so that hasn't been been something they had to deal with lately. Yes, they prefer crumbles, but I get to choose their food, and they willl eat pellets just fine.

Edited to say that when they start paying the food bill, they will get to make the choices

They are about 6 months old. They're adults, aren't they? At what age do they start laying or even getting broody?
