Silky brooding .. no eggs

She has been laying for 2 months now. Oh, she lives indoors with us. She would lay in our closet when the eggs are ready to come out then leave the eggs. In the past 3 days she hasn't laid anything and spends all her in on her closet nest. She doesn't come out. She is less than a year old.

I'm concerned that she not laid any eggs and keeps stilling on her nest. She does not get up for food or water. We have to bring to her.

Help? Egg bound? Just wants to be pampered?

Is there a way to get a chicken out of brooding mood? I miss her on the outside deck this week.

She has gone broody, not egg bound. Do not take food and water to her-that is not healthy for your pet. Be assured she will not starve; she will come out for food and water when she needs to. Many hens will brood an empty nest as though it were full of eggs. So here you have a choice:

1. Find some fertile eggs for her to hatch. OR

2. Break her of broodiness by putting her in a bare screen cage with only food and water. Usually in a few days to a week the broodiness quits. You could try just locking her out of the closet.

That is a beautiful silkie cross, I agree with nchls school, you can put her in a wire cage so air can circulate around her and she will be broke of her broodiness within a few days.

I closed the closet and the bedroom door about a hour ago. Never seen a really ****** off chicken before now.
