Good morning everyone, I'm wondering what thoughts are on a silky x dominique, I'm looking for a sizzle, but someone has a silky x dominique pullet that's adorable, my concerns are it will be bigger than my dainty silky, and my frizzle bantam cochin, so I'm trying to decide if I should go look at her, thank you

Thank you, that's what I had hoped, but unfortunately when I tried to make arrangements to come pick out a couple they wanted me to pick by pictures and they would put it in a box and meet me, I'm not comfortable purchasing without getting to look at them (mites etc.), in my early days of chickens, I fell for this once and they put a rooster in the box, so unfortunately once I suggested that I come pick and social distance by leaving my carrier so they could go get it and put it in and then I would look, they said they would set up a time but I didn't hear back. 😕 I guess it's not meant to be

I think the bantam gene is dominant. the baby should be small. I would do it!!
Do you have support for this claim?

I've been breeding chickens for a while and never YET heard or experienced THAT one, and THINK it's inaccurate but never stop learning. :pop

Sounds like a WISE choice! :highfive:

Mites/lice/parasites are easily dealt with and honestly the LEAST of concerns.. Respiratory disease, Marek's and others are far larger threats which CAN be HIDING dormant not YET seen at their other home.

If you want Sizzle, hold out for Sizzle.. there's NOTHING special about a cross bred Silkie/Dom.. it's just a hard feathered barnyard cross.. they'd be lucky to give it to me for FREE. ;)

Which valley are you in, adding your general location to your profile might help folks make their best suggestions possible at a glance? Heed that first lesson and don't dismiss THIS one.. BIO SECURITY is KEY to protecting the birds you already have.

Also welcome, I hope you're enjoying BYC! :frow

I'm in Northern California, yes I do quarantine for at least a month ,I have a 6 foot quarantine run on the other side of my property no where near my current girls, so I can get them use to me and make sure nothing should arise, thank you

I got two "guarenteed silkie hens" without seeing them,(my friend did), and they were BOTH roosters! I can post a pic of him if you want
Yes I also have 2 guaranteed silky hens, that now crow 😕, I purchased at 4 mo., good thing their so sweet, I didn't have the heart to get rid of since my 6 year helped take care of them , I had to build a separate run just to keep them, that is why I look for young pullets, every time I don't I end up with rooster, the things we do for the love of chickens 💟

Sounds like you're still in your adventure learning phase, and not yet ready to hear what I'm saying.

Glad you're rolling with it and having fun, re you Silkie roosters! :thumbsup

Hope your joy continues.
