Hi, i just found one of our silly chickens had made a nest up high in our shed, and i only found out cause i heard chirping! And no hen in sight, Ive put the one that hatched in a brooder box, but there was another egg hatching. It has pipped and i can hear it, ive already got eggs in the incubator (day 15) so i poped in in the end.
Question is because its been outside and without the hen, for i dont know how long, will it hatch? Or will it need some help?
Thanks in advance!

Whow. Silly hen indeed. Bless em they aren't the brightest bulbs on the Christmas tree but they are amusing.

If it is pipped, and still chirping, I'd hands off and wait and see. Chicks I've hatched in my Brinsea generally rest after pipping. Sometimes up to 12 hours so the last of the blood can be absorbed by the chick and the umbilicus seal.

Good catch on hearing the first little chick and rescuing it and the other eggs. Hope you have a good hatch.

Lemme guess......first time broody? Talk about a short attention span. I keep hearing how durable chicks are but that littel one must be made of rubber. Any thoughts of returning the abandoned chick to momma?

The mother is a lil wild there are about 5 of them that just hang around. We did have a problem with roosters a while back and had to cull them all. So will keep them in brooder, so they are easyer to handle when older, i may take the other one too but dont want to upset mum, maybe she can keep one.

Heres the one i found and one that hatched one other egg has also pipped so could hav 3 in the brooder and 1 with mum.
