Why do they think it's cooler huddling all together?

Temps are in low 90s today. They already got their ice cube frozen blueberries today.

They are dust bathing or trying too, since you have no dirt/sand in there.

It's important to provide an area with loose dirt for that purpose. Helps to remove build up, debri, and parasites of there skin and feathers.

They are probably trying to dig down to the cooler dirt. Agree with @Tonyroo they are probably trying to dust bathe to cool off

Mine always dig down into the cool dirt on a hot day.

They have a dust bath. It is a rubber tub with a mix of loose dirt and sand.

I know they are trying to dig down to cooler ground. We even wet down the corner of the coop some for them to do that. I just thought it was funny that they were piling on top of each other instead of spreading our more.
