Silly question about feathers

I have been needing to trim my cochin's leg feather to better treat his leg mites. (I think I'm winning the battle on that, btw). But will his feather grow out again, or not until he molts? Thanks for any info.

They'll grow back when he molts.

My understanding of it is, if the entire feather is lost shaft and all, it will grow back immediately. If you are only trimming and leaving the shaft in place, it'll have to wait to grow back until a molt.

Yes, I'm leaving the shafts in place, I'm worried about all the blood feathers he's got down there.
