Please don't laugh! We have two Buff's that are about 5 months old. We wanted to hens but as they are maturing, one has a comb and one does not. The one that has a comb has yellow legs and the one without the comb's legs are paler yellow. The one without the comb has just feather's on it's head. Do we have a hen and a rooster and if so, which is which? Also, one of them laid their first egg today. When you have a hen and a rooster, how do you tell if the eggs are eating eggs or chick eggs? Thanks for your help!!

Hi and welcome.
No such thing as a silly question.
It would be most helpful if you were to post photos of both birds - preferably in the "what breed/gender" forum - so you can get input on the gender of each bird.
As to the eggs - even if you do have a roo, as long as you gather your eggs daily and do not allow your hen to go broody and set the eggs there is no difference. An egg does not become a "chick egg" until the hen starts the development process by setting on the eggs. Gathering eggs daily prevents that from ever happening and keeps all your eggs "eating eggs".
