I have a nine week old Gold Deathlayer pullet and your description of temperament is similar to my limited experience! Incredibly hard to catch but super inquisitive. She's very naughty and curious. Typically I am not a massive fan of flighty breeds and honestly didn't even want one-she just happened to come in an assortment but after raising her, I wouldn't hesitate to get more. She's quite entertaining and I feel like she is quite intelligent compared to many breeds I've raised. I've had no health issues either but it sounds like many people have. I would definitely order from a reputable breeder to avoid an inbred birds with compromised immune systems.I read that a lot of people have issues keeping them a live but mine have all done great! They are the most shy out of all the breeds We own and we have scout 6 or 7 breeds. Our death layers free range from sun up to sun set, i never seen them roost on a tree, though they frequent fly to the top of the coop. They have no issue coming in the coop every night, I just bribe them with abit of chicken scratch. They wouldn’t let us catch them but are happy to sit in my head, back..shoulder when I’m holding the feee bucketGood luck with your deathlayers
Oh that’s so true about their intelligence! I never thought of it but you are right, I picked one up yesterday and was patting her and cuddling her while I visited the different chicken cOop, the look she gave me was pretty hilarious. she arched her head far away from me giving me a funny look like “I don’t understand what s going on here, what is this holding me!?”I have a nine week old Gold Deathlayer pullet and your description of temperament is similar to my limited experience! I disagree, because I have a full blooded pair and mine are the same color(the babies).Someone ripped you off. Those are mutts with zero deathlayer blood.
