I have 6 Silver Duckwing Phoenix chicks, hopefully a rooster or 2. I was wondering if there was anywhere I could find information to find out what to do to insure that their tails grow as long as possible. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I imagine that most of the long tails are kept semi-isolated so as to keep others from stepping on(or pecking off) their feathers... and with perches high enough to allow them to hang.

Thanks... I'm hoping to get the tail as long as I can... they are absolutely beautiful in my eyes

This is my phoenix, He is 2 years old.
They need a lot of room, very tall big cage, and the roost should be high up, so that the tail does not touch the ground when they are up on the roosts, Mine does touch the ground, we need to higher his roost, Don'T let them be together, because they will step on each others tail, and it will pull out the feathers.

Good luck, Hope you do great with the.

Shay did you have to do anything special with his diet? Someone told me that they need alot of sunlight is that true. Your roo is beautiful. Thanks for the advice

What the sun does for them is darken there face color, this is for every show birds, that you can see there face.

For food, lets see he gets, cracked corn with egglayer pellets, watermelon,
tomatoo, and sometimes hamburger with eggs and corn meal.

The watermelon is for extra hydration, tomatoo is for cleaning out his insides, and the hamburger with eggs and cornmeal is for weight gain.

apple cider viniger in his water, for a bunch of reasons, helps with digestive system, respitory, and is great for the feathers.

and you can bath them in apple cider viniger water.

ohh be very careful when letting others handle them, and watch if there are any kids or other animal that are around them, in case they start jumping around, it can ruin there feathers real quick.

Make sure they get a high post, so tail is way off the ground, and when they turn there tails don't touch the cage to much.

good luck with your Phoenix.

Oh yea, DONT DUBB THEM, We made that mistake when we first got ours.
but hey he did pretty good at the show, I was shocked that he was not DQed. LOL
