Are there any breeds which the hens are for sure silver? Is there a way to tell if a white hen is silver? Or do I have to test mate each white hen before using her to make red sex links?

I answered your question when you posted in this thread. Avoid solid whites but use any of the others in the red sex link chart.

There are only two colors for chickens. All are either red/gold or silver. Black is caused by pattern genes. White, both dominant and recessive, are genes that modify black. If a bird has white feathers with black patterning, it's silver based.
