Silver Laced Wyandotte, 26 weeks, no eggs yet

I got a black Australorp and a Silver Laced Wyandotte that both hatched two days before Labor Day last year. My Australorp started laying about three weeks ago but my slw has not yet. Her comb is bright red and has been for a month at least but still no egg. She seems very healthy, active and vocal in her cute and quiet kind of way. Does anyone have any idea how old slw's are when they start to lay? Thanks for any input.

Ours were just about that age when they finally started laying. I'd say any day now. Good luck!

never had a Wyandotte but from the research i have done and the things i have heard all chickens seem to lay anywhere from 18 - 30 weeks old. Meyer Cheap chicks and other hatcheries contain that kind of breed info.

Excuse the stupidity but does the redness of the comb indicate that they are going to lay soon?

I bought my s/l wyandottes from a breeder in January the older ones were 14weeks it's now march... Still no eggs do I wait it out?

I'm worried that I'm not feeding them right... They get table scraps (meat, veg, fruit, bread everything really cept onion) and they get Red Hen Free Range Layer- Green Bag! They have the run of a full chicken pen & x2 houses to sleep in always have water but it has been really HOT.

Help!

My impatience is over! My Wyandotte layed her first egg and second egg the past 2 days. So, I guess it took about 27 weeks. dlind88, doing the match real quick and basing it on my recent experience, I think you probably have a few weeks to go with your older hens. Additional research I have done is definitely showing that Wyandottes are good layers, but slow to start. Assuming you older hens were 14 weeks in the first or second week of January, you have three weeks until they are the same age as mine that just started laying. Also, from what I have seen, when the combs start to get bright red, it's not too long that they will start laying. With that said, it could be a month or more after the red comb comes in. I believe there are other signs such as squating. The best way to tell though is when you find an egg!
