Silver Laced Wyandotte and Ameraucauna?

Yes, roosters are illegal in my city. What do you see that identifies it as a him? It has been the smallest of the 4, but it was the one that seemed the bossiest of them.

That's seriously unfortunate. Especially since this was the chick that had a red mark above its beak when we got it. The store said that meant it was marked as female.

Sexing chickens at a day old is not easy.
Mistakes happen even for professionals. I too live in the mn city limits and had to trade in 3 cockerels to my friend for a hen. Ask around but if all else fails you can put him on craigs list as a free roo. But understand that he might be butchered. Or keep him until he is starting to crow and have him butchered yourself. If you planned on eating your hens eggs I think raising a roo for meat is raising him for his intended purpose too.

Thanks, Avian.
Although I couldn't butcher one of them myself, I do get that it's part of the plan and I'll do my best to see that he's happy and healthy until I can no longer keep him.

My original plan was 3 chickens, but when I read that you can't add just one new chicken to a flock, I decided to go with 4 in case one didn't make it. Then, I'd wait until if or when I lost another, and then always be able to replace with 2 chickens at a time.

I guess this is my first taste at chicken math? Where everything happens in multiples....
