We're *still* a tad unsure on the Wyandotte, as s/he has taken to squaring up to and occasionally flying at with claws up at our little Pekin cockerel. I've not seen any of my previous hens fighting like this (I've not kept cockerels before the past few months) and I do have to wonder whether the Wyandotte may be a cockerel after all?
I thought the most useful photo at this point would be the saddle area - and the feathers are looking decidedly pointed!
While they do look pointed from a distance, if you look closely, you'll see a very fine, rounded fringe that surrounds those "points." Judging by the color pattern of your pretty Dotte, I'm still going with pullet.
This is a girl color pattern. I thought my girl was a roo with her comb and thick legs but she's a girl! A cockeral would have a much different coloring mainly on the chest
We'll hold onto her a bit longer to see She's so pretty, I really do hope she is a she! She really doesn't like the Pekin cockerel, though!
Had no big trouble sexing the other two boys we have: Light Sussex and Pekin (posted on here, but already had our suspicions early on!) - wanted so much to keep the Pekin, but he's hopefully off to a new home in the next few days as I'm considering showing and possibly breeding and it's not blacks I'm interested in. Been let down three (!) times on the Sussex, which is bloody frustrating and D-Day is Monday for him *sigh*.
He,s been crowing for a week or so. Very considerate, though. We bring him into the living room and he doesn't start till we take the blanket off the carrier (so he has a stay of execution for a while and we are trying to find him a home).
Wish I had seen this thread when I was in the same quandary with my Wyandottes. I just read right through here and was panicking that I'd let some pullets go thinking they were cockerels :/ But as yours has started crowing @Ida Brown it makes me feel better, I know not for you with having too many boys.
We didn't do so bad, just under 50:50 buying young chicks, could've been worse and two cockerels happily homed Did want a SL Wyandotte girl, though... Know anyone in Yorks that wants a reasonably well behaved SL Wyandotte bantam boy?
