Silver Laced Wyandotte or Dominque? **More Pics**

This would be very funny if she was a Barred because that's the breed I wanted to get originally and then I let them talk me into Dominiques, but they were straight run so I got the GLW instead. He said Barreds are not really good for meat, but we are not going to have enough chickens for meat anyways, so now it doesn't matter.

The main difference between the Dominique and the Barred Rock is the comb. I got a Barred Rock by accident when I ordered a Dominique and she was my absolute favorite hen (she was taken by a predator about 2 weeks ago). They are just all around wonderful chickens.

She is a lovely girl and, I am sure, a joy to have around.

Oh, and yeah, she IS a Barred Rock.

LOL that is just wonderful! thank you for your help.

So now I'm wondering if I should get another Barred or if I should get a Dominique! Do you think she could tell the difference?

Here is a good pic of the bigger GLW. Sorry about the splotchy glass, it's getting cleaned today since it's raining and the coop construction is halted.

Is this what yours looked like at 3 weeks of age? I was told they are Black Australorps. They started getting gold on them. I thought GLW, but then I seen Barnevelder. But the pics said that GLW have rose combs, well that is what my little guy and gal have. Now I am wondering if my black one isn't a SLW!!!

I have 12 Dominiques from Ideal. One of them has a single comb, so I asked if it was a Barred Rock and 'Pine Grove' & 'silkiechicken' posted that some Dominiques can have a single comb. I am waiting to see the barring and size of the chicken. My chick is only 3 weeks old.

So I would guess yours is a Dominique, because of the barring. How old is she?

This link shows some differences between Dominiques and Barred Rocks: http://www.dominiquechicken.com/Dominiques_and_Barred_Rocks.html

Many hatchery Barred Rocks just have messy barring, that's all there is to it. I think she's a Barred Rock. My Ivy has the worst barring, but she's no Cuckoo Marans or Dom, either one. Hatcheries have confused this issue, too, plus there are crosses of the breeds at times as well. And the fact that some people call any dang bird with barring a "Dominecker" never helps the issue. Here is Ivy-see? Badly barred Barred Rock. Barring is a tough trait to get right. Ivy's legs were yellow, but she's been laying for a long, long time, so they have faded.

Based soley on my own flock, I'd say the very first pic is of a barred rock. Looks just like mine. I also have SLW and Black australorps...so here's some pictures.
