I'd really like one. Can anyone speak to their personality? I really am at may max right now...but maybe in the future. They are so beautiful. Besides....they didn't have any at the feed store and I have a feeling that would be something I'd have to order and who takes an order for a few chicks? I think I'm safe from over doing it...for now. LOL! But for future reference...are they friendly birds?

Well, with hatchery birds, you never know what you're going to get, but my hatcher slw is my freakiest bird, won't let me near her...

I have two SLW that I love. They are from Ideal - and I just love them!!! Next year I will probably order 20 of them...really! They are great layers, calm personalities, and gorgeous to look at.

No complaints!

When it comes to hatcheries, they vary quite a bit - Both body and egg color. Mine have a huge variety from the poorest quality body and lacing to a decent type, and their eggs go from a light tan to a decent brown. Also, they lay quite well, but their eggs are rather small.

How are their personalities? Kinda terrible in my opinion. Of all 10 girls I have, only one will voluntarily say hi to me and come up on my lap on a consistent basis - Some of them are so flighty and shy, they don't let me within 10 or so feet of them.

If it weren't for their eggs, which they seem to lay in all the wrong places these days, I wouldn't care too much for them.

Oh nice thing about them though is that they are VERY hardy. I have not lost a single Wyandotte to anything.

I'm sure good quality Wyandottes are different though - I know plenty of people with them, and not only are they friendly and gorgeous birds, but their eggs are larger and a consistent light brown color, signifying for a true type.

Wonderful birds.Lost my big roo to coyote not 50ft from me

I have 2 and they are great. They have beautiful markings and are quite docile. They are the leaders of the pack though, as I read they would be. they lay big brown eggs also. I got mine from mypetchicken.com and they have a very small minimum. I just ordered from murray and all except 7 out of 40 came dead. never again, but mypetchicken was great!

I ordered 5 SLW last year from Mcmurray Hatchery. They are my most beautiful birds and they are tame. Although ill say BO are better in my opinion because they are the most tame.
