Silver Laced Wyandotte

I would say cockeral...legs are pretty thick for only being 8 weeks old...the color of pullets and cockerals at this age are all the same...they start changing much later...comb and wattles are red as mentioned also....

Speckledhen,

Thank you...I have been concerned about my SLW's who were sold as pullets but one has a rosy area where the comb will be. They are 5 weeks old and just beginning to lose some of their black feathers and gaining some white. One has the start of a regular/single comb but it is yellow with just a touch of pink at the base; I think this is the one that didn't look like the others when DH brought them home from the feedstore.

Yes, not really about right or wrong....I'm just always curious how I did. Very true about them having conflicting traits. I think that can be very true between hatchery stock and breeder stock. Sometimes it's kind of like comparing apples and oranges.....both fruit, but not the same.

That is so true, about hatchery stock vs breeder stock. All of my hatchery Wyandotte girls seemed to get some pink in their combs earlier than I would have expected. I have not had breeder stock in this particular breed, but I have in others. They seem generally to take longer to mature (except the Delawares).
