Hi everyone, i Recently bought some sllver penciled cochins from Ideal and they seem the same as dark brahmas , slow feathering, heavier than other cochins, with the exception of the rose comb which was the final clue to figuring out they indeed cochins. So are SPC basically the same thing as a dark brahma other than the comb?

Both breeds have differant postures/ shapes. Cochins are supposed to be rounder, and both colors are differant. If they came from a hatchery, then they might have been mixes, or they might of messes up your order.

Here are some Pictures to Help you all out...they are about 7 weeks old and are from IDEAL

While the paint job is the same on both models, there are mutliple differances in body styles.

Up front, cochins have a single comb, brahmas pea comb. Brahmas should have tighter feathers, are taller with a more upright stance, heavier skull and brow. The back on a well breed cochin female has a nice rounded cushion, a well breed female brahma has a straight back tilting from the back of neck rising to the tip of the tale.

Looking at your pictures, first two shots are a pullet, second two a cockerel. They are not feathered on their feet as heavily as they should be.

Here are a couple of links that show some good ones and some others. Note that vulture hocks are allowed overseas, as some photos show.
