silver penciled wyandotte

Super cool! so many of us seem to have started off with just the idea of having a few hens in the back yard for fresh eggs. I started out with 7 girls May 2012 and now have plans for breeding Delawares, New Hampshires and their dual purpose hybrids as well as creating a Red, White, Blue, Silver, Grey laying flock that provides me with a rainbow basket. Still in the early stages of both.

Moving from LA did you mean Los Angeles or Louisiana?

Los Angeles check this guys site he,s a freind close by http://www.landoftobe.com/ he has both breeds i have some of the new hampshires great birds. pics at the bottom of the page

You must love being out of LA! Funny you bring up Land of Tobe. I have been in touch with Mr. Braden (?) his line is in my two most recent Dels...He has beautiful birds. I like both breeds b/c they are so utilitarian and make nice hybrids. They are pretty but I am going for WOW with my laying flock...hence SPW. :)

So they have 5 more days of feathering and the chick my H is holding in the first set of pics is noticeably darker than they one I am holding.

Is there any gender significance to that?

OK here are my latest pics...These guys were 6 weeks old on Thursday. Chick 1 is in the first 3, Both ate in the second group and I only got 1 good pic of chick 2 alone. Is it still too early to tell?

Here they are together 1 in front here...I think

2 on left 1 on right

2 on left 1 on right

and finally a pick of chick 2 alone. Darker and even slower to feather in than chick 1

Thanks!!!

Hi again, I am wondering if you can look at the latest pics of the chick I am still hoping is a pullet and tell me I am just kidding myself. This chick will be 9 weeks old on Thursday and the pics were taken yesterday so 8 weeks 3 days

"her" hatchmate has a significantly darker pink face and comb, more black and more developed wattles. neither has much of a tail. Thanks!
